Writer's workshop--I Remember Pee

The Prompts:

1.) Define goodness...joy...sorrow...and anger using pictures you've taken. THIS would be my absolute FAVORITE writing prompt to date, if ONLY I had my pictures from my other computer. HOW FUN!!!

2.) Tomorrow I will do it differently. Here's how... I will eat more.

3.)Describe a 'sound' from your childhood. What was it? When did you hear it? What does it bring to mind? Um, my mom yelling? Every day. It brings to mind my mom yelling.

4.) I remember when...

5.) Right now is the best time to start. What's your first step?
Eating more.

----------------------------------------------------------

I remember when I used to have to walk to school three miles in the pouring down rain or freezing snow or hail even. Most times I didn't have shoes, because my mom couldn't afford to buy me shoes. Okay, so that was a lie. My mom did buy me shoes.

You know what this writing prompt reminds me of? MY CAR. EVERY TIME we get in the van one of those little dumplings (who can talk) will ask from the backseat if we will tell a story. See, we have to REMEMBER something from our childhoods. So it makes sense that I would ask them to tell me about a story I should tell you about. With me still? Here we go:

Kati: Tell about Millicent's birth.

Millicent: Tell about my birth.

Kati: The time Millicent peed on the floor.

Millicent: When I pee peed on the floor and you told Kori to clean it up and she did. I've got two more things.

Millicent: When Kati cut my cord.

Kati: Tell about Asa's birth. (In a whisper to Millicent because she's not thinking quickly enough.)

Millicent: Tell about Asa's birth.

Mom: No, what was the other thing you were thinking of?

Millicent: When I cried and you gave me Mommy's milk. Did Daddy get milk in a bottle for me? No, I just had Mommy's milk?

Kori enters room.

Kori: Have you told about the way you told us you were pregnant? You could write about Millicent when she peed on the floor.

Mill: No I did that one. Tell about Asa's birth.

Kori: And you could write, it's not a story, about sometimes when Asa doesn't get his way and he's in a bad mood, he literally throws a fit. You could tell about the fits.

Mill: Tell about Asa's birth.

Kati: Don't tell them they come from me, please.

Kori: You can tell about how he got mad last night when you were in the bath. He got mad about everything. Dad closed the gate, he cried. Dad picked him up, he cried. Dad put him down, he cried. The only time he didn't cry was about 2 minutes long and he was still whimpering.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So I guess I should tell the story of when Millicent peed on the floor, because evidently it's a really good story.

Well Millicent was about a week old and it was time for her first bath, because her cord had fallen off. Everyone in this house was in love with Millicent. She was the sweetest little thing and hardly cried at all. I don't remember her making much of a peep that whole week. Who knew that giving her her first bath would be more exciting than going to Frontier City.

EVERYONE gathered around the sink as we started undressing her and running the water. Jeff was taking pictures and Ashlea was recording it.

I had all her clothes off and then took her diaper off. I suppose the cold air of the kitchen hit her little bum. As soon as I took the diaper off she peed on the floor. It was hysterical. We all cracked up. She just stared at us.

Ashlea had turned the camera off but Jeff had actually snapped a picture of it. (As you'll see in the last picture.)

Somehow that tiny little moment has been told over and over and over in our family and Millicent loves to hear it. Which is weird because she peed on the floor every day for a year when we (thought) she was potty trained. None of those stories ever make the cut. Go figure.

Here she is at 1 week old, oblivious to what's going on around her.

She was born in the water and we've always said that's why she loves the water.

Ashlea just told me she didnt record Millicent peeing on the floor.

Thanks for stopping by! You have a beautiful and blessed family! My mom shouted too, but that's not what I remember. Don't worry, I should have been shouted at more. Your kids will remember the best of you!
