Michelle, if you are reading this, please join us for lunch

The Duggars: 20 and Counting

I'll tell you, I love to watch the Duggars on TV. (Now I don't have cable, so I don't get to watch it often, but any time I am over at my in-laws, I try to sneak a peak.) They are such a joyful and fun loving family. So it was with great anticipation that I awaited a copy of their new book. I was NOT disappointed.

The book opens with Jim Bob and Michelle telling about their individual walks with God and their childhoods. They were vastly different. They go on to tell about their sweet love story. It brought me to tears.

They explain why and how they got to the point where they had 18 children, and whether or not they want more (Jim Bob says he leaves it to Michelle. Michelle says all children are a blessing. You decide.)

The book gives account of so many ways God provided for them. I was fascinated by it. I know we can all look back on our lives and see how God furnishes our needs. It was wonderful to read their accounts.

Jim Bob goes into great detail about his business acquisitions. They are interesting to read. He details his failures as well as his successes.

Their book also answers lots of questions we have certainly all wondered:

Why do your children's names all start with J?

Do you breastfeed?

How do you lose the weight after each pregnancy?

It gives account of why they don't watch TV, their scheduling and chore time. It also briefly discusses how they secure their internet usage (which I absolutely love).

I could go on and on.

I found this book to be a blessing. It opened up the Duggar's lives to me in a way the TV show did not. I feel like I know them really well now.

I even came away with a new parenting technique. She said when she starts to get angry she lowers her voice. I'm not a big yeller, but my voice does get higher as I get madder (again, not yelling/screaming, just louder). So I've been doing that. It actually helps to dispel the anger. Great tip!

I highly recommend this book for large families, Christian families, moms, AND dads. It has a lot to offer. I also appreciated that it was in paperback and reasonably priced. It was short enough that I could get it read in a little more than one evening. That meant that unfortunately, it wasn't long enough. I would love to have read more.

I still have some questions for Michelle, so Michelle, if you are reading this (yeah, right) please stop by and let's have lunch. Bring the kids. Oh could you imagine! What fun!

I'm not ready to part with my book yet, but if you live near me and would like to borrow it, just ask.
