Ditch the Disposables

Disposable feminine products (tampons, pads) to reusables I'm going to save this one for another post.

Grocery store bags to reusable bags I love this idea. I even bought some reusable bags last year. I've never used them for groceries. I always forget to take them in. They are so pretty in orange, blue and green. And they set under the changing table crying out to be used. But they only seem to cry when I'm cleaning them up off the floor, from Millicent throwing them down. They never cry when I'm sorting coupons before going to the store. Why do you think that is?

Anyway, how do you remember? What prompts you to take them in with you? Do you use them at Walmart, Homeland, Walgreens? I need some help here.

I go to Aldi's which is a grocery store you have to bring your own bags too. As a rule, when I am done putting away the groceries, I make myself put the bags back in the car...well, I have CJ do that as a "special chore". It is the ONLY way to remember. If you put them on the table and say you will put them up later...it won't work. Have to do RIGHT after emptying them out. That way you have them no matter when you go to the store.

I also put them in the car as soon as I unload them. It is also my 10 yo's job to bring them into the store. Our grocer gives 5 cents for every bag used. I use them everywhere, farmer's market, health food store, grocery store, walmart, rite-aide. It just takes a while to get in the habit. I also keep some in my husbands truck in case he has to stop on his way home. Waiting to here about the Feminine products???? Its the one step I have yet to take.

I know a lot of people who just keep them in teh car....or there are some brands that come with little stuff sacks (think wallet-sized) so you can just stuff the bag into its sack and stick it in your purse so you always have it...

Hmmm, so get the kids to help me remember. Good suggestion!

I saw on another blog a way to make them from Tshirts. Pretty easy even if you cant sew. If you can sew, you stitch up the bottom. If you can't then you put a ribbon through the seam and tie a knot. Leaves a tiny opening but no big deal really.
