Works for Me Wednesday

Teenagers

I have the most wonderful teenager any parents could ask for.

She is: beautiful, smart, funny, helpful, kind, loving, generous, thoughtful, witty, etc, etc. I could go on and on. She hardly ever gets in trouble. She helps out all the time. She loves her sisters and brother. Yesterday she sat in Millicent's play area for about 15 minutes playing kitchen with her. I couldn't ask for a better teen. She never went through that terrible rebellious stage that so many parents fear.

People ask all the time, "How do you do it?". Or I hear, "I could never have that many kids." (Really, five, you could never have five kids?) What I want to say is, "SHUT UP!" Well maybe not that exactly. But it does exasperate me. For some reason I feel like that is an attack on my children. That's not where I was going with this post. Anyhow, what I think after "shut it" is how I need Ashlea to get it all done.

Having a teenager works for me. It makes my life easier. Crystal from Biblical Womanhood is pregnant and in the throes of massive, all day morning sickness. When I have morning sickness and insane, I think I have cancer, tiredness, she helps out. When I can't fathom making one more meal or smelling a piece of raw chicken, she pitches in. When I need a nap, she lets me have one.

She makes lunches and helps me out with dinners. She babysits. She dresses children. She helps with laundry and cleaning and driving....she drives everywhere because she knows I hate to.

My teenager is going to college in a little less than a year. I'm going to miss her. Not because of all her help (I'm already training her predecessor to fill in...Kori), although that's some. I am going to miss her because she is my precious baby girl all grown up.

We all need a teenager around. I only pray that my future teenagers are as wonderful as Ashlea.

It's great to hear someone else who loves having teens! I have 3 teens and 1 tween (my daughter is 17 too) and I think my kids are great!

Keep up the good work!

It sounds like you got very lucky, as well as doing a great job parenting. Visiting for the first time from WFMW.

stumbled across your blog today. My oldest son is almost 14. He is amazing. Where is all the drama everyone talks about? Well, its not in my home. I love him and am so very grateful to have him around. Its so fun to see him growing into a young man.

I'm not sure that luck had anything to do with it. Nor my parenting. God's grace alone!

Thanks everyone. Teens ARE great!
