Over at Crunchy Domestic she posted a challenge for us greenies. Ditch the Disposables. So I figured, why not? I love challenging myself to do more/save more/be more. So for the rest of Sept and through October, each Money Saving Monday, I will talk about one element of the challenge, because it does save money to ditch the disposables.
Here are some ideas to get you started…
You can make the switch from:
Paper napkins to cloth napkins done
Paper towels to cloth towels done
Tissues to handkerchiefs partial
Paper, plastic or Styrofoam plates to your kitchen plates done
Inexpensive plastic “Take & Toss” sippy cups to Sigg or Camelbak bottles or the Kleen Kanteen need to do
Disposable water bottles to (again) reusable bottles like Sigg or Camelbak need to do
Plastic sandwich bags or paper lunch bags to reusable containers/bags unsure of this one
Swiffers (or similar products) to a broom and dustpan or mop (or use reusable cloths like cloth diapers/terry inserts in your Swiffer) good one to try
Disposable dust rags to cloth rags done
Disposable diapers to cloth diapers done
Disposable wipes to cloth wipes (inexpensive plain washcloths work really well) done
Disposable feminine products (tampons, pads) to reusables like DivaCup, MoonCup, Glad Rags, Luna Pads, Pretty Pads, or New Moon Pads, among others done
Grocery store bags to reusable bags bought, but always forget to use
Or, for the really adventurous:
Toilet paper to cloth wipes/washcloths (for #1 or #2 too if you are really, really adventurous) some people in our family are trying
Please join me.

Hi Michelle!
Great post - we don't use many disposables. We've always made a point of trying to find reusable alternatives. Unfortunately, we have spring water that could possibly dry up if we use too much, especially this time of the year, so I can't use cloth diapers like I used to...takes too much water to add that much laundry to my week!
Thanks for commenting on my blog earlier. You are absolutely welcome to use The Simple Woman's Daybook on your blog, but don't link back to me, link to: http://thesimplewoman.blogspot.com - That's the blog it originates from. You can copy the logo at the top of the post by right clicking on it, then click on "Save Picture As...", save it into your picture file, then download the picture into your post and link it to the website above.
You probably already know how to do that, but just in case! LOL
Hope you'll continue to stop by!
Blessings,
Brandi
