Blogging pet peeves

Today I bring to you my biggest blogging pet peeves. And I would adore it if you would leave yours too. That way we can all just vent together. We'll feel better when we are done. And hey, we might just make the world a better place. YES! I'm altruistic that way.

I hate word captcha. It's like this. You write out a prolific comment for someone. You've spent all your free time on that thought provoking and endearing comment....only to have spend another minute typing in some random letters. WHY? I mean it, why? Why do you have it? What purpose does it serve? Just think how much easier it would be to not have to type it. (And then, PEOPLE, serious overkill. Not only do you have the words to type in but you have comment moderation on. All you need is comment moderation.)

It's like this...when you get home and your door is locked and you have to expend the energy to unlock it. Wouldn't it just be easier to just leave it unlocked? Well I do. No, you can't have my address. It would be like having it locked AND boarding it up. Yes. That's like captcha and moderation. OVERKILL, people.

So back to the subject at hand. WHY? Why must you have the word captcha? What purpose is it really serving other than to drive me crazy?

And here's this. I write out my comment, hit send and think I'm done. BUT NOPE....there's more work to be had. I wonder how many times I've closed down a page thinking I WAS done only for there to be a word captcha and you didn't get to read my comment. Oh, for shame!

Another one I hate. Never responding to comments. Here is the irony though. I vowed to visit every blogger who left me a comment on my SITS day and I haven't yet. And now I'm starting to feel like maybe too much time has gone by anyway.

BUT this isn't about me. This is about you and how you annoy me. My point was, if I leave you a comment can you visit me or leave a comment back. Can you acknowledge my existence in some small way? Give me an award or sing my praises on your blog. Going too far? Okay, then, just comment back. UNLESS it's your SITS day and then you are forgiven.

Here is the other thing that makes me want to scream. When you comment on my blog, I often want to reply to your comment, straight from my email box (vs going to your blog and leaving a random comment, based on your comment) but you don't have your emails set up to receive replies. I know you want to though. So here are the instructions:

At the top right hand side of the page is your email address and down from that it says Customize. Click that.

Go to your Dashboard. (It's in the top right hand corner of your screen, beside your email address.)

Inside the little box there it will say View profile, but that's not the one you want. You want the one underneath that...Edit profile.

Three down it says...show my email address. That's the ticket.

Scroll down just a bit and type your email address in the email address box.

Then save.

EASY! And ever so worth it for me. You'll like it too though.

Okay, and that's all you do that annoys me. That's because you aren't here in person or the list would be WAY longer. I think we can both be thankful.

What about you? What are your blogging pet peeves?

Now isn't this funny, the captcha drives me nuts too. I'm still new to blogging and thought I'd check to see if mine was set up for that and sure enough it was! ICK, Just turned it off. Have a good day.

My Peeve is when you read the whole blog...and sometimes they are looooooong. When it comes time to comment, I can't. If I am not on my home computer (and I spend a lot more time at work than I do at home on line) I can't leave a comment unless a new window opens. I know it is handy to have the comment at the bottom of the post...but if you do this I can't leave you a comment!

Yes!!!! I hate CAPTCHA also!!!!!

That and I hate when I can't figure out where to go to comment! Oh! And when there are TONS of comments and no "jump down to comment form". I've run into that a few times!

Ah yes...the captcha...and of course I have it on. :) But I have a reason for it! I started getting all sorts of spam comments...and I mean REAL spam comments where it would be like "click here" with a link and you click there and it would start downloading a trojan horse to my computer, etc. Now THAT was annoying. So. I put the word captcha on and voila - no more spam comments. That's honestly the only reason I have it...not to annoy anyone. :)

You may need to strip your diapers! What type of detergent were you using? I recently discovered http://www.rockingreensoap.com/

I bought samples and am so impressed! About ready to order a large bag of the stuff!!!

I'm with you on the never commenting back. There's one particular blogger I really like, and I comment on her posts - a lot. But she's never once returned the favour. I'll keep reading because I actually do enjoy her, but I no longer feel the need give her a comment.

I feel like I miss stuff because the blogger that I've left a comment for leaves me a comment in the comment section and does not send me an email. I don't go back and re-read blog entries I've already commented on so I never know that they've responded to what I said!
Sometimes I don't respond to my comments but I always visit the blogs and leave comments! I'll try to do better!!

LOL, I think this a common theme today. I will let you know I have followed the directions and if I have a fantastic moving laugh and pee your pants comment on your blog. You should be able to respond with your brillant words of hysteria because I too am brillant.

Also hate WV, why do we have that? i took mine off and I also leave another comment telling them HOW much I hate it and take it off LMAO... some listen some just ignore my wonderful great outstanding advice.. can you believe such a thing.

My goodness do they not know who I am? geezzzz

Have a great day!

I am with you on this one, I just realized recently that I have been responding to no-reply@ for a long time now. And there were some great comments and humor in all those responses that went to nevernever land!

I have a problem with blogs that are full of bad grammar and bad spelling. It really just grates on my nerves. I have some that I follow, because they are family or I know them personally. But, there have been a few that I would like to follow because the overall content is great, funny, charming, whatever, but I fall away and can't because the inappropriate use of words, bad spelling, grammar errors, etc., just takes over and that is all I can see.

I am not talking about made up words, I am guilty of that. I am not talking about using punctuation for dramatic effect. I am talking about using here for hear, and your for you're, there in place of their, and so on and so on....

And BTW-if your word has a little red line underneath it, it is spelled incorrectly. AND, if you right click, it will show you the correct spelling.

Your welcome folks!

Great Post Michelle!! Love!

I'm guilty of not always responding to comments. But, honestly, it's because almost every time I try to, people have not set up their account to accept emails from comments. ANNOYING!! So sometimes I just don't bother trying. I'm going to try to be better at this though. I really am.

Well, it was my understanding that the typical way to respond to a comment was by returning the favor on the giver's blog?? At least that's the way we do it at SITS. You comment on my blog, I comment on your blog. That's the way you get more comments, right???

BTW, thanks for stopping by my blog today and for leaving me a comment. We did not take pictures at the competition because it was literally all my husband could do just to get me and my wheelchair inside the gate and then to try and keep me conscious through the entire performance as I have a very hard time sitting up for that long. It was a very, very rough time but I'm so glad I was able to be there. There is another band parent who is a photographer and usually takes pictures at each event. Hopefully, we will have pictures from him soon. I'll share then!

Thanks again for stopping by!

I hate that there is no way for me to leave comments from my phone. And that there is no app to read blogs from my phone. But this really has nothing to do with people blogging, it's just a blog thing that bothers me.

G-Zell said...

You are totally cracking me up today. Thanks for making me smile. Yep I have comment moderation because i do not want some psycho who can leave me some crazy bleaping message and I dont check it until later then I would feel moded, did I just say moded ROFL.... cuz I am cool like that..

I heard a kid tell jeff those shoes look fresh , I was hey wait a minute that belongs to us kids from the 80's man LOL :)

ummm..what is SITS?

This is Holly, again too lazy to change emails. blah

Sherri @ Luv a Bargain said...

Oh no...I'm guilty of captcha. But I just turned it off. I never thought about the comment moderation still being in effect. Duh? Consider me less annoying now...maybe a little anyway.

Kelly said...

Ok, so I know I already posted a comment, and that this is late, but this just happened to me, and is now my biggest blog pet peeve EVER!!

I tired to leave a comment that said "Cute crafts!"

I received an error message that said (and I copied and pasted this):

Your comment was a bit too short. Please go back and try again.

Oh... I see....
you expect me to allow the entire blogging universe to send me emails? Yeah, I love you, but that's not gonna happen.
I have YOUR email address saved into my contacts (both in my email & on my phone. Yes, on my phone)
And when I wanna email you, I do. Please take 2 minutes and save my email addy Michelle. Please.
Okay, maybe I'll try it for a week, but if I get annoyed, I'm changing it back. or deleting my email account.
