Gulf Shores, Alabama, what's NOT to love?

Over at Mayhem and Moxie they are having a week long Blog Carnival for all of us to participate in, centered around a vacation theme. Which is PERFECT because I was just on vacation and hadn't had a chance to post on it.

For those new(er) to blogging, a blog carnival is a place where everyone blogs about a specific topic then we link up at the main site. You spend time, as you have it, visiting the other sites. You get to read new blogs and other blogs get to read you. It's a way to get a little exposure, maybe some new readers and meet some new bloggers. You might even find a few you can't stop reading. So JOIN IN!

Today's topics: (I HAD to choose two, but you do it however you want!)

1) The most outrageous person you met while traveling.
2) The best (or worst) hotel you ever stayed in.
3) Someone on your trip who saved the day.
4) The weight you gained while on vacation.
5) The book that made your vacation endurable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The most outrageous person you met while traveling.

I know, he's looking at me, right?

I was down at the beach, taking pictures of the kids swimming. Yes, that's them in the background. (Kori in the pink bathing suit and Kati in the purple.) I'm just snapping away. Along comes this guy.

I see him walking up the beach a little ways. I was mesmerized. Because? Because look at him! He's obviously in his thirties and yet he's wearing a bikini with his bulging stomach.

So I keep snapping pictures of my kids....wink, wink. I snap a picture of him as he walks by. And I have to tell you, I was feeling a little guilty for making fun of him....and worse for taking a picture of him that I KNEW I was going to put on my blog.

But not bad enough to not snap it.

So later, I'm in the condo, looking at the pictures and he's LOOKING RIGHT AT ME! Holy CROW! It's like he KNEW I was snapping his picture. WEIRD!

Later I told Jeff how fun it would be to take pictures of all the weirdos we saw. Like the guy walking down the street in the pouring rain with nothing but a pair of shorts on. At first Jeff agreed and we got a good laugh out of it. But then he turned all politically correct on me. (This from the man who calls little people Sparky's.)

"We can't take pictures of weird people for your blog. That's just not right."

Whateve.

So I didn't. But at least I got the one guy with the bikini, and the skin tight white shirt, and the fat gut.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The book that made your vacation endurable.

My vacation was pretty great. I went to the beach every single day and read. So I didn't need to make the vacation endurable, but the book did make it better. A good book will do that.

I read the first three books of Twilight. I know, you are tired of hearing about it. But they were just so good that I couldn't not mention it again.

Especially now that I'm reading Breaking Dawn. OH WOW! It's SOOOOO good. How can it be better than the ones that came before it. And what will I ever do with my time when I've finished it.

Go to sleep early and wake up refreshed, spend time talking to my husband, watch some TV even...I mean, after all Survivor is on...not that I can watch it.

if you look closely....look at his eyes...he is saying with those eyes "yes take my picture and blog about me, I know you want to..." See permission granted! Nothing wrong here!

There's a few times I wished I could have snapped a couple of pictures on the beach of some really odd looking characters! Funny you got this one!

Wow! Now Napoleon Bonapart coined the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words", but I bet he never saw a redneck with a camo sun visor, woman's tank and speedos carrying his flip flops on the beach giving him the once over eye as a picture was snapped! You have a knack for capturing weirdos with the camera, wish the hubs hadn't gotten all PC, I imagine the pics would have been worth millions (of words at least).

Dropped in from Cheapskate. I'll be stopping in regularly! :D

I took a picture of a lady's bedazzled crocks in the market one day. She totally saw me. It was hard to be incognito when your phone makes that camera shutter noise! Uh!

I would've taken a picture of him to. Otherwise who would've believed me!

Just stopping by from SITS

I like my son to help too. That's why I ended up with half a self pedicure the last time, because he started "helping" and then got distracted and started doing his own feet and that was the end of that. Here I am with half calloused feet.

Good luck with new baby!

You have no idea how often I've been tempted to do exactly what you're talking about. Why do we feel so bad?? I guess it is kind of mean, but paparazzi take pictures of people and make fun of them all the time. Why can't we get in on that??

We're too nice. Love the picture though!!

Oh my gosh. I laughed so hard at the man in the bikini! Doesn't he know that you can't wear a bikini on bloated days.... : ) Funny as can be! It does look like he is totally looking at the camera and cheesing!

You are my kind of people. Taking pictures of the weirdos you meet while on vacation? Now that is simply pure entertainment, and if I may, GREAT stuff for your blog.

Adored this post. Thank you!

One of my close friends is also adicted to the twilight books and has been trying to convince me to start. I watched the movie and wasn't overly impressed but now you have me thinking about getting the books...

I think you should have continued taking pics of the weirdos.

I heart everything Twilight.

I love your blog and your family is lovely. The speedo man is hilarious...there's always at least one at the beach and it's usually the one who should not be wearing a grape smuggler.

Hilarious! Those are the moments you remember on vacation so hooray for you for being bold enough to capture that silly man!

Those type of swimming suits should be banned, just my own personal opinion. Unless you are an Olympic swimmer/diver than they should be banned. I love peaple watching, looking at wierd people, not sure I would be brave enough to take their pictures, but I like that you weren't really taking his picture, you were taking a picture of the kids lol

Okay, that guy knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he walked right into your picture. I'm a little surprised he didn't wave.

As for life after Twilight, I hate to tell ya, but nothing will fill the void that you'll surely feel when you're done reading it. I mean, I've read good books since then, but nothing has caused me to tear through it like Twilight did (I don't think I've ever read that fast in my whole life!). The next best thing, though, is discussing the entire series with someone as THEY'RE reading it for the first time. So, that should be your goal... find a friend who hasn't read it (a Twilight virgin) and get them on the bandwagon and then you get to re-live it through them... :)

Um - you know what I'm thinkin' ...

You CAN take pictures of weird people for your blog!!

It's for your readers. You're doing a public service. And we thank you!
